“This is the message that we have heard from him and proclaim to you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say we have fellowship with him while we walk in the darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth.” 1:5-6
Christ is something different to all of us, and if you were to ask me what He is to me I would immediately say joy. He is all of my Joy! I’m sure I have mentioned that to you already, but I feel like this connects to the verses above for me. When I am walking through the darkness I cannot claim that I am close to him because I am not. For me to practice the truth in the message of Christ is to practice and live in complete joy. So that’s just my personal example. I do think though that the priority when it comes to truth should be love, but of course you know that!
“The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. Beloved, we are God’s children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is.” 3:1-2
It is so hard living a world that we do not love, and we know that we are not a part of, but loving the people within that same world who are in love with the world. I love loving people, and serving them, but it’s not always the easiest thing. I think that most of the issue in my life is not so much that I do not connect with people, but it is that once people connect with me and learn that I want to pursue ministry they run. I am absolutely no one above anyone else, and I wish people would see that all I want to do is be friends. I have so many stories that fall into this category that I would love to share with you all, but i’ll make note of it and share them another day. 🙂
“For this is the message you have heard from the beginning, that we should love one another.” 3:11
Love is perfected within us because His Spirit is in us, and God is love.
2 John & 3 John
2 John is about love, and the final message is this: If one does not follow and live a life of love and to emit love they do not have Christ in their lives.
3 John is about supporting one another as a body. It is about sending of servants of Christ to do His work in a well manor and accepting them.
“There are hidden reefs at your love feasts, as they feast with you without fear, shepherds feeding themselves; waterless clouds, sweat along by winds; fruitless trees in late autumn, twice dead, uprooted; wild waves of the sea, casting up the foam of their own shame; wandering stars, for whom the gloom of utter darkness has been reserved forever.” 1:12-13
Know what you believe in, and be so rooted in deep with the word of God. There are so many people who teach wrong and speak wrong doctrine, and they are in search of ears that will follow. Learn how to discern right from wrong when it comes to Christ, and persevere in those beliefs. If you stumble, get lost, or misguided know that there is always one place that will bring you back to complete truth, and that is the Bible.
