The Parable of the Sower
“A sower went out to sow his seed. And as he sowed, some fell along the path and was trampled underfoot, and the birds of the air devoured it. And some fell on the rock, and as it grew up, it withered away because it had no moisture. And some fell among the thorns, and the thorns grew up with it and choked it. And some fell into good soil and grew and yielded a hundredfold.
“He who has ears to hear, let him hear.” 8:5-8
The purpose of the parable:
- The seeds are the word of God
- The seeds on the path are those who have heard; then the devil comes and takes away the word from their hearts
- The ones on the rock are those who receive the word with joy, but have no roots. They believe for awhile, but in the time of testing they fall away
- The seed in the thorns are those who cared, but get choked by the riches and pleasures of life
- The seeds in the good soil are those who hear the word, hold fast with an honest and good heart and bear fruit with patience
I remember reading this parable when I first got saved, or some time in the early months, and I was so convicted! I belonged to the rock category then. I loved Jesus, but I did not know Him personally or have a relationship with Him. Rereading the parable now has a different affect on me, but I know many might find themselves in different areas. The world is a tough ground to battle on and it could easily convince one to conform to its patterns, but remember that your sacrifices do not go without reward. Hold fast, and trust the word of the Lord, and you will bear ship loads of Good fruit!
“Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!” 11:28
I’ve began to notice that there are certain teachings that Jesus was repetitive about and one of the them was the teaching of the light in us. I have read it three time within two gospels and I can’t help but feel like it has extreme importance every time I read it. No one will put the lamp in a cellar after it is lit, they will put it on a stand for all to see. Our whole bodies and soul are full of light, and that light is Jesus. Do not let yourself fall into darkness. Protect what you let your eyes see, what you let your ears hear, and what you let your hand do. Stay in the light of the Lord so that you can be a better vessel and instrument for His use when the time comes.
That is all for today’s devo! I hope you are so well, and for some reason I keep feeling that the Lord has put the word ‘Humble’ on my heart today. I will be practicing that, and I hope you can join me on that too! Love you all & God bless until next time! 🙂
