60 Day New Testament Journey ~ Day 3 Matthew 9-12

“Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. Go and learn what this means, ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.’ For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.” 9:12-13

Our calling from Christ before anything else is to disciple. I’ve been to many church’s where it is taught that we should chose friends wisely and stay away from all and any type of sinner, but is this really what Jesus would want or do? I understand guarding our hearts is important so we don’t fall into sin, but it is the people in sin that need us to show them the love of Jesus, and the people in sin that need to hear the good news.

“Take heart, daughter; your faith has made you well.” 9:22

It takes courage to follow Jesus and His message. Faith is nothing without the courage to believe the message and words of the Lord. I know that if even when I am in a low place I push myself in faith to follow and read the word of God everything will work itself out. This past year I was taught something and it was this: When you’re not feeling it on a Sunday during worship or on any day you must FAITH it. Push yourself in FAITH to lift your hands and use FAITH in prayer even when you are in doubt.

“So everyone who acknowledges me before men, I also will acknowledge before my Father who is in heaven, but whoever denies me before men, I also will deny before my Father.” 10:32-33

Be bold! I don’t know why I feel like I should compare us to trees, but stand tall for the Lord! We were meant to grow and reach out to people. So don’t be a limp branch when someone challenges your faith and beliefs. Keep firm in the word and what you know and trust the Lord to give you the words you need in those situations.

“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.” 11:28-30

There is no room for negativity in our lives! This is something that I find hard to grasp simply because i’m a worrier, but i’m trying now more then ever to learn this from Jesus. There is no point in dwelling in the bad remarks and opinions that people throw at you. “Shake off the dust.” Lean on God when things get rough or overwhelming and dwell in his peace and comfort. I’m sure you’ve heard it so many times before, but God will not give you anything that you cannot handle. Trust Him, and learn from His words.

That’s it for today’s devo! Tomorrow i’ll be reading through Matthew 13-16. Hope you are doing well!! Until tomorrow 🙂
